Cake stall

Yum!

Thank you to all the parents who baked yummy cakes and slices and also to Ms Withers and the team of councillors who made the cake stall possible.

Symmetry

Learning about symmetry is fun. We can find the line of symmetry in objects. We can slide, flip and rotate objects.

Elastic energy

Our buddies helped us to understand how elastic energy in a rubber band, which has potential energy, is converted into kinetic energy by doing an experiment.

You need:
cotton reel
rubber band
washer
match stick
tape
pencil

Thank you Jane Quin for donating the cotton reels and washers.

Our Year 5 and 6 buddies made race cars driven by elastic energy.  They might help us to make one too.

NZ Sign Language Week

Celebrate - Communicate - Connect is the theme of this year's Sign Language Week. New Zealand Sign Language is one of  NZ official languages.

Monica, a parent from our school, visited our class and taught us some signs.  We learnt how to say some phrases.

We are learning to say our names

Signing the alphabet

Signing animal names and colours

Sam said - He likes sharks.

Check out the following sites for more resources:
nzsl.vuw.ac.nz
learnsign.org.nz
deaf.org.nz
nzslsignninja.co.nz - this is a new site that launched today - play Sign Ninja, a new fun way to learn NZSL online.

A huge thank you to Monica Leach who taught us NZSL today.

Catching skills with Simon

Playing a game "in and out"

Making a 'w' with our hands when catching the rubber ring.

Rolling and squashing the ring with our feet.

Balloon Rocket

We did the balloon rocket experiment to get us excited about our concept. We learnt about the two states of energy and know what potential and kinetic energy is. Liam and Maisy helped with the balloon rocket.

Later our buddies explored with us.
What happens if we blow the balloon up really big?
Is air energy?
